Emmanuelle Vaugier Speaks Up for Baby Seals
Blood-soaked ice, audible cries from helpless baby seals whose skulls have been crushed before they gasp their last breath…
This may sound like a scene from a horror film, but it is in fact the reality of Canada's annual commercial seal slaughter. Television and film actor and Vancouver native Emmanuelle Vaugier joins a long list of Canadian celebrities, including Sarah McLachlan, William Shatner, and Pamela Anderson as well as world-renowned musicians like Ke$ha and Iggy Pop, among others, who have asked you to help end the Canadian seal slaughter.Watch Emmanuelle's exposé of the Canadian seal slaughter:
As a Canadian, Emmanuelle is particularly disgusted that her tax dollars fund this bloodbath. A University of Guelph study found that ending the commercial slaughter would save Canada at least $7 million each year. Even though the United States, the European Union, Mexico, Taiwan, and, most recently, Russia—which had been importing 95 percent of Canadian seal fur—have banned imports of seal fur, the Canadian government continues to support this dying industry. Even though there is no market for seal pelts, the government continues to pander to Canada's East Coast seal lobby out of desperation in order to control the parliamentary swing seats in Newfoundland and Labrador. "We'd rather see our tax dollars going elsewhere. We don't need to see little baby seals get clubbed to death," asserts Emmanuelle. The end of the seal slaughter is near. Now is the time to call on Canadian officials to end the slaughter and help the sealers make the transition out of this cruel industry.
